Newsletter of the Hudson Valley by BearSystems

You all optioned in for my newsletter, Thank You!

Dog days of summer are upon us. It has been wet and hot. I am not so sure I like this better then the snow! What I do like, is the change of seasons. The change in the weather is something to look forward to, or not. Beats living in Florida or Montana all year!

How's Business Been?
Seems like more CT, NJ plates in the area

While the term "staycation" is relatively new, 15 percent of respondents recognized it as "a vacation that people spend at or near home, instead of a traditional vacation away from home." Once having the term explained to them, more than half (51 percent) of the respondents said they plan to take one or more staycations this summer-including 24 percent who are changing their traditional summer vacations to include a staycation this year. Staycations appear to be more popular among grill owners: 54 percent plan to take a staycation this summer vs. 43 percent of non-owners. Source: http://www.rnntv.com/

Historic sites in the Hudson Valley are all over the place. Try to get the people to visit them and your business should be easy. I know it's not. People need to be pointed to the right direction. Try making some kind of "deal" with our local attractions, a tit for tat arrangement.

See http://www.hudsonriver.com/ or http://www.hudsonvalley.org/ for places to talk to. I'm sure they will at least listen to any reasonable suggestions. BTW: I do not know who owns either of the above sites. I do know that my historic pages need work, and theirs are perfect.

Have you noticed any change this year? Tell me about it. I'll post your stories in my next newsletter, to recap our summer season.

Last Time I Wrote
I was complaining about the heat

There is no holiday in August. We should write the governor and get him to declare a "Hudson Valley Day", a "Catskill Day" or what ever. Just to get one more holiday for the summer.

The next holiday is Labor Day. The summer season will be over. Why? The weather is perfect during Sept and Oct in the Hudson Valley. Prime time for picking crops, changing color of the leaves, the kids are back in school... I don't even want to think about cutting my own Christmas tree yet.

Consolidation Combined 3 web sites into BearSystems.com

This bright idea didn't work at all. Google seemed to be pissed off at this idea. It didn't like the combination of the mix in subjects on one web site, These webs site are back to their lonesome numbers.

Try Again

I have another bright idea. I have added more state sites under BearSystems.com. See http://bearsystems.com/StateOf/index.html for the states of VT, NH, CT, RI and NJ. Currently, they lack the kind of content they deserve, but I'm working on them

 Until next time...

The price of oil is falling. The price of gas is not!

There is still time to but oil stocks before the next "BIG" dividend checks go out.
I heard on the news yesterday, that the experts predict gas prices to fall a whole quarter by Labor Day. WOW!

The gas stations were quick to raise prices when oil prices rose, but a little slow to lower gas prices when the price of oil falls.

This past week a barrel of oil fell $21 and the price at the pump was not lowered a penny.

I know it is not your local gas station owner. They make only pennies on a gallon of gas.

I guess we should brace ourself for the quarterly reports from the oil companies to see if they made any profits.
