Hudson Valley Boat Launch Sites

New York State owns and operates over 350 boating access sites. These sites enable the public to reach and use the state's tremendous water resources.
(D) designates a site operated by DEC;
(P) indicates a site operated by the Office of Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation;
(M) indicates a site operated by a city, town, village or other municipality; and
(C) indicates a site operated by the Canal Corporation.

The following definitions will assist you in determining if a particular site will accommodate your boat:

• Hard surface or concrete ramp--site affords float-off and float-on launching for most trailered boats.
• Beach launch--no float-off or float-on trailered boat capability. Sites will accommodate the approach to the water's edge of small and light trailered boats. Boat may then be pushed on or off trailer. Usually shallow areas.
• Hand launch--no trailer capacity. Boats must be hand carried to the water.
• Car top launch--For canoe/kayak launching. Limited parking available.

Albany County

Hudson River (D) - Albany County, (Town of Bethlehem coop agreement). Henry Hudson Park. Located off Lyons Road approximately ½ mile north of the Hamlet of Cedar Hill on NY Route 144. Parking for 35 cars and trailers. Two lane paved ramp.

Hudson River (D) - Albany County, (Town of Coeymans coop agreement). Off NY Route 144 in Hamlet of Coeymans. Concrete ramp. Parking for 40 cars and trailers.

Thompsons Lake (D) - Albany County, (coop agreement with Town of Berne). Located on NY Route 157, 1/4 mile north of its' junction with NY Rout 157A. Parking for 5 cars and trailers. Beach launch. 15 hp limit.

Columbia County

Hudson River (D) - Columbia County, Germantown. Off Route 9G in the Hamlet of North Germantown, to Northern Boulevard, to the end of Anchorage Road. Hard surface launching ramp. Parking for 20 cars and trailers.

Hudson River (P) - Columbia County, Hudson. At the foot of Water Street. Hard surface launching ramp. Parking for 46 cars and trailers.

Kinderhook Lake (D) - Columbia County, (coop agreement with Kinderhook Lake Club). Access from County Route 28 at the outlet of Kinderhook Lake in the Village of Niverville. Parking for 15 cars. Hand launch. No gas motors. Electric motors permitted.

Lake Taghkanic (P) - Columbia County, Lake Taghkanic State Park. On Route 82, 11 miles south of the City of Hudson. Permit required, available from park manager. Gravel launch. Parking for 20 cars. No motors permitted.

Delaware County

Delaware River (D)- Delaware County, (coop. agreement with the Village of Hancock) off Bard Parker Road, south edge of the village off NY Route 97. Parking for 15 cars. Hand launch.

Delaware River (East Branch) (D) - Delaware County, off County Route 28, approximately 1/4 mile west of the Hamlet of Fish's Eddy. Parking for 10 cars. Hand launch.

Delaware River (West Branch) (D) - Delaware County, Hale Eddy, off NY Route 17 approximately 6 ½ miles west of the Village of Hancock. Parking for 6 cars. Hand launch.

Little Pond (D) - Delaware County, Campground. Off Route 17, 14 miles north of the Hamlet of Livingston Manor on Beaverkill Road. Hand launching. Parking for 20 cars and trailers. No motors permitted.

Rudd Pond (P) - Dutchess County. On Route 22, 2 miles north of the Village of Millerton. Permit required, available from park manager. Gravel launch. Parking for 10 cars. Electric motors only.

Dutchess County

Hudson River (P) - Dutchess County, Margaret Lewis Norrie State Park. Park is located in the Village of Staatsburg, nine miles north of Poughkeepsie. Parking for 40 cars. Hard surface launching ramp.

Hudson River (D) - Dutchess County, Tivoli Bays. Off Kidd Lake, off Route 96, 3/4 miles south of the Village of Tivoli. Hand launching - only at high tide.

Greene County

Green Lake (D) - Greene County on Valley Road, off County Route 49 approximately 2 miles north of the Village of Leeds. Hand launch. Parking for 10 cars.

Hudson River (M) - Greene County, Catskill. Off the east end of Main Street at the Catskill Park and Boat Launch. Two paved ramps and parking for 20 cars and trailers and 25 individual cars. Owned, operated and maintained by the Village of Catskill.

Hudson River (P) - Greene County. In the Village of Coxsackie. Hard surface launching ramp. Parking for 36 cars and trailers.

Hudson River (P) - Greene County. On Route 385 in the Village of Athens. Hard surface launching ramp. Parking for 35 cars and trailers.

North Lake (D) - Campsite, Greene County. Off Route 18, 2 miles east of Haines Falls. Parking for 20 cars and trailers. No motors. Hard surface ramp.

Orange County

Delaware River (D) - Orange County, Sparrowbush. Northeast of Port Jervis, off Route 97, 6 1/2 miles north of junction Routes 97 and 42. Hand launching. Parking for 10 cars.

Island Pond (P) - Orange County. Harriman State Park, on Arden Valley Road, 8 miles north of Sloatsburg. Hand launching. Parking for 10 cars. Permit and key required from park manager at Tiorati Beach. Electric motors only.

Lake Silvermine (P) - Orange County, Harriman State Park. On Seven Lakes Drive, 4 miles south of Route 6. Hand launching, permit required. available from park manager at Tiorati Beach. Electric motors only. Parking for 100 cars.

Lake Skannatati (P) - Orange County, Harriman State Park on Sevel Pakes Drive, 8 miles north of Sloatsburg. Hand launching. Parking for 10 cars. Permit required from park manager at Tiorati Beach. Electric motors only.

Lake Tiorati (P) - Orange County, Harriman State Park. On Tiorati Brook Road, 4 miles west of Palisades Interstate Parkway. Hand launching. Parking for 10 cars. Permit and key required, available from park manager. Electric motors only.

Walton Lake (D) - Orange County. On Lakes Road, 2 miles southwest of the Village of Monroe. Hand launch, trailer launching prohibited. Parking for 10 cars. Electric motors only.

Putnam County

Canopus Lake (P) - Putnam County, Clarence Fahnestock State Park. Off Route 301, nine miles east of the Village of Cold Springs. Permit required, available from park manger. Parking for ten cars. Hand launch. Electric motors only.

Stillwater Lake (P) - Putnam County, Clarence Fahnestock State Park. Off Taconic Parkway, southbound, 1 mile south of Route 301. Cartop launching only. Permit required from park manager. Parking for 10 cars. Electric motors only.

White Pond (D) - Putnam County. Off Route 301 on Farmers Mill Road to White Pond Road. Gravel ramp. Parking for 20 cars. Electric motors only.

Rensselaer County

Black River Pond (P) - Cherry Plain State Park, Rensselaer County. Off NYS Route 22, 1 1/2 miles north of the Hamlet of Stephentown. Cartop launch for rowboats, canoes, sailboats. No motors permitted. Launching ramp. Parking for 10 cars and trailers. Fee to enter park.

Grafton Lakes (P) - Rensselaer County, Second Pond. Grafton Lake State Park. Off Route 2 in Grafton. Hard surface ramp and car top launching. Parking for 5 cars. No motors.

Grafton Lakes (P) - Rensselaer County, Dunham Reservoir. Grafton Lake State Park. Off Route 2 in Grafton. Car top launching. Limited parking. Electric motors only.

Grafton Lakes (P) - Rensselaer County, Long Pond. Grafton Lake State Park. Route 2, 10 miles east of the City of Troy. Cartop launching. No motors permitted.

Hoosic River (D) - Rensselaer County, Buskirk, Access off NY Route 103 at the north end of the Hamlet of Buskirk. Parking for 15 cars. Hand launch.

Hudson River (M) - Rensselaer County, Rensselaer. Off Forbes Road north of the train station in the City of Rensselaer. Two hard surface ramps. Parking for 8 cars and trailers and 20 cars. Owned, operated and maintained by the City of Rensselaer.

Hudson River (C) - Rensselaer County. In the Town of Lansingburgh, Rte 4 North from Troy in town of Lansingburgh. Concrete ramp. Parking for 10 cars and trailers.

Hudson River (C) - Rensselaer County. In the Town of Schaghticoke, On River Rd. 1 mile North of 126th St. Bridge. Beach launch/Shale. Parking for 2 cars and trailers.

Rockland County

Hudson River (P) - Rockland County, Nyack Beach State Park. Northern Broadway, Upper Nyack. Hand launching. Permit required, available from park manager. Parking for 25 cars.

Lake Sebago (P) - Rockland County, Harriman State Park. On Seven Lakes Drive, 4 miles north of Sloatsburg. Beach launching. Permit required, available from park manager . Electric motors only. Parking for 50 cars.

Lake Welsh (P) - Rockland County, Harriman State Park. On Route 106, 6 miles west of Stony Point. Hard surface launching ramp. Parking for 10 cars and trailers. Permit and key required, available from park manager of Beaver Pond Campground. Electric motors only.

Lake Welch Beach State Park's man-made Lake Welch, with its half-mile-long sandy beach in the wooded hills of the Ramapo Mountains, is the largest beach in Harriman State Park. Originally a small body of water with farmland around the edges, Lake Welch became the large lake that it is today when a dam was completed in 1942. The park offers cool breezes, swimming, fishing, boating, picnicking, hiking and camping in adjacent Beaver Pond Campground. Winter activities include ice fishing and snowmobiling.

Schoharie Creek (D) - Schoharie County, Off NY Route 30A approximately 1 1/4 miles north of the Hamlet of Central Bridge across from Cripplebush Road junction. Parking for 20 cars. Hand launch.

Schoharie Creek (P) - Schoharie County, Mine Kill State Park. Route 30, 5 miles south of Middleburgh. Concrete ramp with parking for 65 cars and trailers. Ramp serves power authority pump storage reservoir.

Schoharie Creek (D) - Schoharie County. Town of Esperance off Route 30A approximately 2 1/2 miles north of Route 7. Town of Esperance-DEC Coop Agreement. Hand launch with parking for 10 cars.

Sullivan County

Basher Kill Marsh (D) - Sullivan County, 4 miles south of Wurtsboro. Four hand launches off Route 209, Haven Road and South Road. Parking for 8-20 cars per site. Electric motors only.

Cliff Lake (D) - Sullivan County. Walk-in access 0.6 miles from parking lot. Access road just end of Mangaup River bridge off County Route 43, follow signs to parking. Open May 1-November 30. Parking for eight cars. Electric motors only.

Crystal Lake (D) - Sullivan County. Off Lake Tennanah Road on Crystal Lake Road, 8 miles southwest of the Hamlet of Roscoe. Hand launching. Parking for 30 cars 0.1 mile from the lake. Lakeside parking for 5 cars. Electric motors only.

Delaware River (D) - Sullivan County, Callicoon. Off Route 97 in the Hamlet of Calicoon. Hand launching. Parking for 40 cars.

Delaware River (D) - Sullivan County, Narrowsburg. Off Route 97 in the Hamlet of Narrowsburg, access off Main Street. Hard surface launch ramp. Parking for 24 cars and trailers.

Delaware River (D) - Sullivan County, Skinners Falls. Off Route 97, 6 1/2 miles north of Narrowsburg, adjacent to the Milanville, PA bridge. Hand launching. Parking for 50 cars.

Delaware River (D) - Sullivan County at Highland. Rte 97 1.5 miles west of Barryville. Hand launching. Parking for 40 cars.

Lake Huntington (D) - Sullivan County. Off Route 42 on Narrowsburg Road. Town of Cochecton. Concrete ramp (1 lane). Parking for 5 cars.

Lake Superior (D) - Sullivan County. Operated by Sullivan County. On Dr. Dugan Road 1 1/2 miles south of the Hamlet of Bethel. Hand launch. Parking for 120 cars. By daily fee or annual permit. Electric motors only.

Loch Sheldrake (M) - Sullivan County in Hamlet of Loch Sheldrake. DEC cooperative agreement. Jct. Rte 52 and Hasbrouck Rd. Hand launching. Parking for 20 cars. To be constructed in 2003.

Mongaup Falls (D) - Sullivan County. Off Route 42 on Forestburgh Road, Town of Forestburgh. Concrete ramp (1 lane), parking for 5 cars and trailers. Open April 1 - November 30. Electric motors only.

Mongaup Pond D) - Sullivan County, Campsite. Off Route 17 at exit 96, 6 miles west on County Road 81 and 82 to the Hamlet of DeBruce, 3 miles north on Mongaup Pond Road. Hand launching. Parking for 20 cars. Electric motors only.

Rio Reservoir (D) - Sullivan County. Old Plank Road, off Route 42, 2 1/4 miles southwest of the Hamlet of Forestburgh. Hand launching just north of dam, parking for 10 cars. Hard surface ramp off Plank Road. Parking for 15 cars and trailers. Open April 1 - November 30. Electric motors only.

White Lake (D) - Sullivan County. Off Route 17B west of the Town of Monticello, 1 mile north on Route 55 in the Hamlet of North White Lake. Parking for 21 cars and trailers. Hard surface ramp.

Ulster County

Alder Lake (D) - Ulster County, Town of Hardenburgh, off Route 54, 2 1/2 miles northeast of the Hamlet of Turnwood. Hand launching. Parking for five cars. Electric motors only.

Chodikee Lake (D) - Ulster County. Five miles east of New Paltz off Route 299. Hand launching. Electric motors permitted. Gasoline motors prohibited. Parking for 20 cars.

Hudson River (D) - Ulster County. Town of Ulster - DEC coop agreement. Charles Ryder Park. Ulster Landing Road, one mile south of Kingston-Rhinecliff Bridge. Concrete ramp (two lanes). Parking for 50 cars and trailers.

Onteora Lake (D) - Ulster County. Off Route 28, 4 miles north of Kingston. Hand launch. Electric motors only.

Upper Pond (D) - Kenneth L. Wilson Campsite, Ulster County. Off Route 28, 4 miles east of Mt. Tremper on County Route 40. Hand launching only. Parking for 6 cars. No motors.

Wallkill River (D) - Ulster County. Springtown Road, 4 1/2 miles north of New Paltz. Hand launch.

Wallkill River (M) - Ulster County. Village of New Paltz. DEC cooperative agreement. Off Rte 299 on Plains Rd. Hand launch. Parking for 5 cars. Electric motors only.

Westchester County
