Town of Esperance

• Central Bridge -- A hamlet at the south town line on NY-30A.
• Dwelly Corners -- A hamlet north of Sloansville on County Road 35.
• Esperance -- The Village of Esperance is at the east town line on US-20 by the Schoharie Creek.
• Sloansville -- A hamlet west of Esperance village on US-20 at NY-30A. It was settled around the year 1756.
• Rockwell Corners -- A location at the north town line on County Road 44.
• Schoharie Junction -- A hamlet in the south part of the town on County Road 70.
• Burtonsville -- A location in the northeast part of the town flanking the Schoharie Creek.

The town was first settled around 1739. Esperance village was incorporated in 1819 and rechartered in 1835, before the Town of Esperance was established. The town was formed in 1846 from the Town of Schoharie.

The Landis Arboretum is a public garden overlooking historic Schoharie Valley near Esperance, New York.  The Arboretum's 548-acre site stretches easily into both Schoharie and Montgomery Counties.  Forty acres are developed with plantings of trees, shrubs, and herbaceous perennials from around the world. The remainder of the property consists of natural areas, woodlands, wetlands, more than 8 miles of trails, and open fields reminiscent of the former Oak Nose Farm, homestead of founder Fred Lape. Among the Arboretum's horticultural features are its collections of notable trees, flowering ornamental trees and shrubs, tough trees for tough sites, conifers, and oaks. Two old growth forests and additional natural areas representing various stages of succession await visitors

Oak Hill Farms offers 30km of groomed, track-set trails on 500 acres of land in western Schenectady County. Trails wind through woods, orchards, and open fields, giving the skier a variety of terrain and beautiful panoramic views. Trails are rated from beginner to expert. Oak Hill Farms has a warming lodge with a fireplace, and a snack bar featuring soup, chili, hot dogs and a variety of hot and cold beverages. Rentals are available in a wide range of sizes. Lessons are given on Saturdays and Sundays at 11 am and 1:30 pm by appointment. Lodging can easily be found nearby.
