Local Government
Monroe is located in southern Orange County. The Town encompasses three Villages: the Village of Harriman , the Village of Monroe and the Village of Kiryas Joel . A small portion of the Village of Harriman is in the Town of Woodbury . The Town of Monroe comprises 2.9% of Orange County 's land mass. As of the 2000 Census, Monroe has the largest population of any town in Orange County at 31,407.

Exhibits include blacksmith shop, weaving, farm life, a mastodon skeleton, firehouse, school house, log cabin, energy and the environment. Special events include Boy Scout and Girl Scout Days, 4-H programs, Family Fun and Games, and a Civil War re-enactment Labor Day Weekend.
