Located on the east bank of the Hudson River, at the entrance to the Tappan Zee Bridge, about 25 miles north of New York City, the historic villages of Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow offer beautiful river views, attractive housing, a variety of diverse businesses, and a great place to live or visit.

The Sleepy Hollow Chamber of Commerce, which is comprised of more than 250 business members from the Tarrytown/Sleepy Hollow area, has developed this web site to offer visitors information about the villages of Tarrytown & Sleepy Hollow. Here you will also find community information including demographics, schools, library and photos; tourism information that includes an area map and links to historic places to visit; as well as a calendar of area events.

Historic Places

Kykuit, home to four generations of the Rockefeller family, is a major attraction. Another is the historic Old Dutch Church.

Points of Interest

Sleepy Hollow is part of the Town of Mount Pleasant. Formerly "North Tarrytown" (it was officially renamed in December, 1996), Sleepy Hollow was immortalized in Washington Irving’s famous tale.

Sleepy Hollow - Headless Horseman Bridge
Off Route 9 in Sleepy Hollow, you will come to the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery. If you follow the main road of the cemetery, you will ride parallel to a stream with a small rapids, and come to a small wooden bridge that townspeople know to be the Headless Horseman Bridge (some say it was on route 9). If you read the Headless Horseman, the path of Ichabod's chase goes down a grassy knoll, across the bridge, and when you make a left, the Old Dutch Church is still visible on the right. The Cemetery has the Van Tassel's graves, along with Washington Irving, the Rockefellers, an Old Dutch Graveyard, The Old Dutch Church, and a lot of other great spots. There's an old monument with a woman sitting in a chair that Suburban Legends say wakes up and roams the cemetery at night. Source: RoadsideAmerica
