February, 1902 – a stagecoach-train collision in West
Nyack, New York. Eight students returning from a night basketball game in a
horse-drawn stagecoach were killed by a train, after getting trapped between
manually-operated railroad crossing gates. First train-school vehicle collision
in the United States.
