Gansevoort, NY (Saratoga County)

The Second Annual Wounded Warrior Fall Family Camping Retreat is planned for Friday September 18th - Sunday September 20th at Moreau Lake State Park. A special event hosted by STRIDE Adaptive Sports piloted the program last year. Due to its colossal success, STRIDE is currently searching for locally based Wounded Warriors who would be interested in participating this year, particularly service members who were injured serving with the National Guard or Reserves.

This unique experience will not only be an enjoyable camping retreat, but serves a dual purpose for therapeutic collaboration between service members who have sustained injuries and/or disabilities to mentor a youth athlete who also has special needs. Each Wounded Warrior will voluntarily mentor a STRIDE youth athlete with a similar disability for camp activities in a weekend of learning together. They will be introduced as email ‘pen-pals’ before camping together.

Weekend activities will include kayaking, swimming, canoeing, archery and whitewater rafting. Meals, general camping gear, gifts and assistance in transportation costs will be provided for all of our participants. STRIDE has been hosting Wounded Warrior winter events for the past four years teaching skiing and snowboarding at Jiminy Peak Mountain Resort in MA, but camping trips are something STRIDE knows well. For more than 20 years, STRIDE has been taking children with special needs camping in the woods of New York State Parks. Due to  overwhelming support from the community and the growing population of service members returning from deployment with permanent injuries, this type of camping event is notably needed.

Donations to assist with the expenses for this event are being accepted.More information on this event as well as other STRIDE events can be located on the web at: www.stride.org <http://www.stride.org/>

The Long Path
The Long Path is a 347.35-mile (559 km) long-distance hiking trail running from George Washington Bridge in Fort Lee, New Jersey to Altamont, New York, in the Albany area. While not yet a continuous trail, relying on road walks in some areas, it nevertheless takes in many of the popular hiking attractions west of the Hudson River, such as the New Jersey Palisades, Harriman State Park, the Shawangunk Ridge and the Catskill Mountains. It offers hikers an incredible diversity of environments to pass through, from suburbia and sea-level salt marshes along the Hudson to wilderness and boreal forest on Catskill summits 4,000 feet in elevation.
