Moving to the Hudson Valley region?

Before selecting a moving company the United States Department of Transportation (USDOT) recommends you take the following steps

1. Have at least 3 moving companies come to your house and give you written estimates. Be sure to ask whether the estimates are binding, non-binding or guaranteed not to exceed a certain amount.
2. Obtain each company's assigned Motor Carrier number and call the USDOT at 202-358-7000 to determine if they are registered and have the proper insurance on file.
3. Ask your moving company for a copy of the "Your Rights and Responsibilities When You Move" booklet.

Important Utility Information

1. Two weeks prior to your move, arrange to have your phone, gas, cable, electric and water service conected the day before you move in. Have service turned off at your old address the day after you move.
2. Call your local phone company at least a week before your move and ask for your new number.
3. Call your long distance company to ensure uninterrupted service for your long distance calling plans and other services.
