Hello, After years and years of enjoying the breathtaking views of the Mountain Top area, while hiking with friends and family, I have always felt somewhat saddened by the depressed atmosphere of some of the business districts, one place in particular, Tannersville which up until recently has had many aging and unkempt buildings on its main street.

I have always steered away from bringing visitors into town, BUT SOMETHING HAS HAPPENED!

All of a sudden as if a sleeping giant has awaken and shook off the dust, "TANNERSVILLE" is now my first stop when introducing visitors to the area.

WOW! A business district as colorful and welcoming as the nature that surrounds it.

Move over Woodstock, move over San Francisco, Move over Greenwich Village, Tannersville could teach us all a lesson in self expression, while spreading joy and positive energy to others.

There are many places which frown upon this type of freedom, and Tannersville should be proud to preserve a valuable American Tradition; Freedom of expression Lives on in upstate NY. Please spread the message:

Historic Places

The Village of Tannersville, incorporated in 1895, began with tanneries and sawmills in the early 19th century. Later, an active village grew up around the Hunter Turnpike resulting in the building of hotels and boarding houses. (more)

Points of Interest

Did you know that the tiny hamlet of Tannersville was one served by not one but TWO railroads? My house on South Main was right next to the depot of the Catskill and Tannersville Railway. The other train line, the Ulster and Delaware, stopped near the lake.

We offer 35 kilometers of quiet nature trails on 300 acres that are groomed, track-set, and marked to their degree of difficulty. All of our trails are patrolled by the National Ski Patrol. We carry all the necessities for your skiing enjoyment and we rent the equipment that we sell so you can try it before you buy it. Our Sales and Rental Shop is an authorized dealer of Fischer, Alpina, Salomon, and Tubbs. Lodging is available at nearby Bed and Breakfasts, cozy Country Inns, and Hotels. The area has many fine restaurants and an exciting nightlife so you're sure to enjoy your stay while skiing at Mountain Trails Cross Country Ski Center. Our facilities are open weekends from 9:00AM to 4:30PM. Weekday hours may vary depending on snow conditions.

The Tannersville Playground is located near the pavilion at Rip Van Winkle Lake. The playground park closes at dusk.
